Educating in a Virtual World

Snowcrash Republic is a collective of educators who specialise in using Virtual World platforms for teaching and learning.

We are responsible for the multi award winning Drake's Island project. We also offer a variety of other services - from initial and ongoing consultancy about using virtual worlds to educate to blog integration, designing and building your virtual educational world to specialist advice on how literacy and other curriculum areas can be enhanced and served through virtual world education.

Snowcrash Republic was set up in 2008 to explore the use of Virtual Worlds for educational purposes. Our preferred platform is Second LIfe. Our first piece of exploratory work, Drake's Island, picked up a number of awards, including the O2 sponsored Media Innovation Award for Virtual Worlds/Gaming and the Apply Serious Games Educational Game of the Year Award.

In 2009 a second version of the game picked up an SSAT National Conference Award for ICT Learning Redesign, sponsored by Toshiba.
